WHAT IS A BIO-BRIDGE?

As part of our commitment to protect and enrich the world we live in, we’re building Bio-Bridges. Bio-Bridges are restored wildlife corridors within damaged landscapes that help endangered species reconnect, enabling them and local communities to live more sustainably.

Over the coming months, participating The Body Shop stores will make a contribution towards building bio-bridges for every specially selected Christmas gift and novelty sponge you buy in our stores or websites to help protect the rainforests. Your kind donations will be split between Vietnam, Indonesia & Malaysia supporting wildlife protection & environmental preservation projects.

THREE WILDLY DIFFERENT PROJECTS

Vietnam: here we will help fund the protection of the Khe Nuoc Trong forest with 1 square metre of rainforest protected with each specially selected Christmas gift or sponge purchased.

Indonesia: funds here will support the establishment of a Forest Management Unit in Sumatra to help protect the southernmost population of critically endangered orangutans and other endangered species, like the Sumatran Tiger, in the Batang Toru forest.

Malaysia: we will be working with partners to prevent habitat fragmentation, the greatest threat to endangered animals, like the Malayan Tiger and Asian Elephant. Our Bio-Bridge will help allow critically endangered wildlife to roam in a larger protected landscape of Endau Rompin.

WHY WE’RE BUILDING BIO-BRIDGES

The rainforests and the animals that live within them are a gift from the planet, but it’s up to us to protect them. So building on the success of our summer campaign in Vietnam and as part of our commitment to protect and enrich the world we live in, this Christmas we’re giving something back.

The Body Shop is aiming to raise £200,000 this year, which will be split between the three countries. 58% will go towards continuing to support our original bio-bridge project in Vietnam, while 42% will be split equally between Bio-Bridge and rainforest animal protection projects in Indonesia & Malaysia. Our goal is to raise 14 million square metres worth of funds by the end of 2016.

GO WILD THIS CHRISTMAS

For every specially selected Christmas gift you buy this year we’ll help one of our Bio-bridges projects in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam by protecting endangered creatures and restoring 1 square metre of rainforest.

This year all pre-filled Christmas gifts and of course our Reggie inspired bath sponges are participating in the campaign.

We want you to feel good inside and out, knowing you’re helping improve the livelihoods of local people and help endangered animals. What better excuse to go wild this Christmas?

The pledge
